Ever since the Big Room explosion of the early 2010’s with tracks such as DVBBS’ (aka KSHMR’s) ‘Tsunami’ and Martin Garrix’s ‘Animals’ the core sound of the genre has been replicated to death. This led to a lot of fans getting bored with the genre quick, which is honestly unfortunate. The genre was brilliant at creating massive cathartic drops based around massive tension builds. Lucky for us that some of the greats who pioneered the genre are still here to show the young guns how it is done.
Laidback Luke and Mark Villa teamed up on the track ‘Rise’ and man is it a master class in how big room should be produced. Rich layers of instrumentation ranging from Latin inspired rhythms to melodic piano, ‘Rise’ has complexity. When the beat drops, the tension gives way to pounding bass and classic Latin horns, reminiscent of Chris Lake’s classic smash hit, ‘La Tromba’.
